ADULT JIU-JITSU

Arte Suave — The Gentle Art

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is often called Arte Suave, or “the gentle art.” The name reflects the philosophy behind the martial art: using technique, leverage, and timing instead of strength and size. Originally developed through the teachings of the Gracie family, Jiu Jitsu allows smaller individuals to effectively control and defend themselves against larger opponents. Our academy proudly carries the Pedro Sauer Association lineage, preserving the traditional principles of Gracie Jiu Jitsu while also embracing modern training and competition.

In our Adult Jiu Jitsu program, students train in an environment that blends traditional self-defense, technical development, and a strong competitive training culture.

Students learn how to:

  • Use leverage and proper body mechanics to overcome larger opponents

  • Train through structured drilling and live sparring in a safe environment

  • Apply Jiu Jitsu for both real-world self-defense and sport competition

  • Build confidence, discipline, and resilience through consistent training

While Jiu Jitsu is known as the gentle art, it is still a demanding martial art. The “gentle” aspect reflects the efficiency and intelligence of the techniques, not the intensity of the training.

Our adult classes welcome beginners, hobbyists, and competitive practitioners. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, competition, or simply learning something new, our program provides a supportive environment where you can grow at your own pace.

Types of Classes

Morning Class

Our morning class is ideal for early risers and professionals who want to train before starting their workday.

Classes typically include technical instruction, drilling, and live training rounds in a focused environment. Many students enjoy beginning their day on the mats because it builds both physical energy and mental clarity for the rest of the day.

Lunch Class

Our lunch class is designed for adults who want a productive midday training session.

These classes include technique instruction, movement drills, and live rounds, providing a complete Jiu Jitsu workout in an efficient timeframe.

We recently expanded our lunch program to include a Friday lunch class led by a world-level competitor. This gives students exposure to high-level competitive insight while maintaining the strong technical foundation and traditions of the Pedro Sauer lineage.

Evening Classes

Our evening classes are the most popular training times and welcome students of all experience levels.

Classes include structured instruction, drilling, positional training, and live sparring rounds. These sessions blend self-defense focused Jiu Jitsu with modern sport training, allowing students to explore both sides of the art.

Saturday Fundamentals

The Saturday Fundamentals class focuses on the core techniques and principles that make Jiu Jitsu effective.

Students build strong fundamentals through detailed instruction, controlled drilling, and positional training. This class is especially helpful for newer students developing their foundation, but experienced practitioners also attend to refine their basics.

Open Mats

Open mats give students additional time to train, practice techniques, and roll with different partners.

Open Mats are held:

1st and 3rd Friday evenings
Every Saturday

These sessions are open to both members and visitors and focus on live training, situational sparring, and collaborative learning in a respectful environment.
